Druk Path Trek

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your guide and driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower built in 1656 that now serves as the National Museum of Bhutan. Continue to Rinpung Dzong, an impressive fortress constructed in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. In the evening, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to experience local culture and hospitality. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
In the morning, embark on a hike to the Tiger’s Nest (Paro Taktsang) Monastery, which takes about two hours. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, the tantric mystic, flew here on the back of a flying tigress. This trail is also part of the beautiful Bumdra trek. In the afternoon, visit Drugyal Dzong, built in 1647 by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, followed by a visit to Kichu Lhakhang, constructed in 659 A.D. on the same day as Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang by Srongtsen Gampo. The trek begins above the National Museum, marking the start of the Bhutan Druk Path Trek itinerary. Hike for approximately three hours until reaching the camp. The trail leads you through a landscape of dwarf rhododendron trees, passing by the serene Lake Janetso. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at the camp, situated at an altitude of 4,110 meters. The trek covers a distance of 11 km, with a walking time of 4 to 5 hours, featuring an ascent of 820 meters and a descent of 400 meters.
From here, we gradually descend to Phajoding Monastery, where you can see Thimphu town nestled on the valley floor, marking the end of the Druk Path Trek. The trek covers a distance of 15 km, with a walking time of 6 to 7 hours, featuring an ascent of 130 meters and a descent of 1,820 meters. After lunch, you can relax at the hotel. In the morning, visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in honor of the third king, the Late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Next, see the tallest sitting Buddha statue, standing at 51.5 meters, at Kuensel Phodrang. Explore Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the Thimphu Valley, built in the 13th century by Phajo Drugom Shigpo. Visit the Takin Preserve Center, a mini zoo that houses the takin, Bhutan’s national animal, believed by locals to have been created by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, known as the Divine Madman of Bhutan. Enjoy panoramic views of Thimphu city from the Sangay Gang viewpoint. Then, visit Dupthop Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s few surviving nunneries. Lunch will be served at the Simply Bhutan museum restaurant. Afterward, visit the painting school, known for teaching the 13 traditional arts and crafts. In the evening, explore Tashichho Dzong, the royal secretariat, and enjoy some free time to stroll through town for shopping and photography. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at the hotel.
In the morning, drive to the picturesque Punakha Valley. En route, visit Dochula Pass (3,140 meters), renowned for its 108 stupas and breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas. The annual Druk Wangyel Festival is celebrated here on December 13th. Next, visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, built in 1499 to honor Lama Drukpa Kuenley, famously known as “The Divine Madman.” He traveled throughout Bhutan and Tibet, using songs and humor to teach his doctrine of salvation through unconventional means. In the afternoon, explore Punakha Dzong, constructed in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This dzong serves as the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan) and the monk body. In the evening, hike to the elegant Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
In the morning, take a walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, spanning 160 meters over the Pho Chu River. Continue your journey by driving to Thimphu via Wangdue Phodrang, where you can view the dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. In the afternoon, visit the Postal Museum, where you can create personalized stamps. Then, experience a traditional archery match at Changlimithang Stadium. In the evening, enjoy some free time to stroll through the town for shopping and photography. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at the hotel.
